About

Carboneers

Created by Berend de Haas and Mart de Bruijn, Carboneers develops decentralized biochar projects in which local farming communities are provided with training, tools and technology to create biochar and carbon dioxide removal credits.

All steps in the process are tracked with a mobile application and with that biochar production data, carbon credits are created which are sold on the voluntary carbon credit market.

The process works as follows: Biomass is being collected and pyrolyzed into biochar by the farmers, after which the biochar is applied to the soil.

Besides being a carbon sink for over a thousand years, biochar is a soil enhancer that improves water holding capacity, and nutrient retention capacity and it increases the microbial activity in the soil, all leading to increased crop yield. On top of that, farmers are being paid for their climate services.

Roughly 65% of the carbon credit revenue is rewarded back to the farmers.

Join Carboneers in a transformative journey where biochar becomes a catalyst for sustainable development, livelihood improvement, and a greener, more resilient future.
